Patheon to offer softgels
RESEARCH TRIANGLE PARK, NC—Patheon, a contract development and manufacturing company, entered into a partnership with Procaps, a Colombian softgel manufacturer, for the rights to market and manufacture P-Gel softgels in North America, Europe, and Asia. Procaps has been developing and manufacturing softgels since 1977 and can manufacture as many as 9 billion per year.

Robinson Pharma granted drug-manufacturing license
SANTA ANA, CA—Robinson Pharma, a contract manufacturer, was granted a drug-manufacturing license from the California's Department of Public Health, Food and Drug Branch. The license— number 55939—required a complete audit of the company's softgel manufacturing facilities. Robinson will begin pharmaceutical manufacturing this year.

UPM adds capsule filler
BALTIMORE, MD—UPM Pharmaceuticals added an ACG North America AFT-Lab capsule filler to accommodate clients' need for small batch sizes. The machine fills as few as 100 capsules per hour and as many as 25,000 capsules per hour with powders, pellets, and combinations. The company provides contract development and manufacturing services.

IPEC to launch excipient certification program
BARCELONA, Spain—The European chapter of International Pharmaceutical Excipients Council (IPEC-Europe) will launch Excipact, a GMP/GDP certification scheme at its annual meeting in Barcelona, Spain, January 25. Excipact calls for independent certification of manufacturers and suppliers of pharmaceutical excipients. The American chapter of IPEC already has a third-party auditing program in place.
