Teva Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. has announced the appointment of Dr. R. Ananthanarayanan (Ananth) as the CEO of its Teva Active Pharmaceutical Ingredients business (Teva API). Dr. Ananth will assume his role on November 27, 2023, and will be based at Teva's U.S. headquarters in Parsippany, NJ.
Dr. Ananth brings with him more than 34 years of experience in overseeing global API businesses, encompassing external sales, internal operations, and contract development and manufacturing operations. He will spearhead the transformation of Teva API into a standalone business, a pivotal component of Teva's Pivot to Growth strategy announced in May 2023. Dr. Ananth previously led the former Teva API and Biologics Operations organization at Teva from 2014 to 2018, affording him a comprehensive understanding of Teva's API business.
Before joining Teva, Dr. Ananth served as the Chief Executive Officer of a portfolio company under a prominent global private equity firm. He also held the position of CEO at a leading Contract Development and Manufacturing Organization (CDMO), specializing in large-scale production of Active Ingredients in areas like Agro, electronic chemicals, specialty chemicals, and intermediates for various sectors including agro, pharma, dyes, and pigments. Prior to this, he held the role of Chief Executive Officer at Strides Pharma Science Limited, a global generic pharmaceutical company, and served as Chief Operating Officer at Cipla Limited. Earlier in his career, Ananth held various leadership positions overseeing operations, business development, and P&L in the global pharmaceutical industry, including at Piramal and Dr. Reddy’s Laboratories Limited.
