Biora Therapeutics, Inc. has officially received an Issue Notification from the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office, marking a significant milestone in its pursuit of innovative gastrointestinal (GI) disorder treatments. The patent, titled “Treatment of a Disease of the Gastrointestinal Tract with a JAK Inhibitor and Devices” (US Patent No. 11,857,669), focuses on the targeted delivery of JAK inhibitors through Biora's NaviCap™ oral delivery platform, currently in development.
This patent encompasses methods for treating GI diseases by administering a therapeutically effective amount of a JAK inhibitor at a specific location in the GI tract. Notably, the amount of JAK inhibitor delivered is less than what is typically required for systemic administration, demonstrating the platform's potential to achieve improved therapeutic effects at lower doses. The patent covers various JAK inhibitors, including those approved or under development for diverse indications.
Adi Mohanty, Chief Executive Officer of Biora Therapeutics, expressed excitement about the patent's implications for their BT-600 program. This program aims to leverage targeted JAK inhibitor delivery to enhance therapeutic outcomes in ulcerative colitis, potentially requiring lower doses than systemic delivery. Biora Therapeutics is gearing up to initiate the phase 1 trial for BT-600 shortly.
The NaviCap platform, featuring 30 patent families and a robust portfolio of 86 granted patents and 81 pending applications, boasts protective measures for its ingestible device. The portfolio covers autonomous localization technology and therapeutic targets for treating inflammatory bowel disease, encompassing Janus kinases (JAK), TNF-alpha, integrins, chemokines, IL-12/23, S1P, and IL-10 inhibitors. Biora's extensive corporate portfolio comprises 73 patent families, with approximately 190 issued patents and 135 pending applications globally in key jurisdictions.
