Backed by Novo and Lilly, Orbis Raises $93M for Oral Macrocycle Drugs

Orbis Medicines announced the close of a $93 million (EUR 90 million) Series A funding round, which will be used to support the development of the Denmark-based startup’s pipeline of oral macrocycle drugs, called ‘nCycles.’

The financing was led by NEA (New Enterprise Associates) with participation from new investors including Eli Lilly, Cormorant, the Export and Investment Fund of Denmark and founding investors, Novo Holdings and European life sciences venture firm Forbion.

Orbis Medicines is looking to pioneer a new era for oral macrocycles, a diverse family of compounds with highly desirable therapeutic properties that have historically been challenging to develop as oral drugs. Orbis’ programs are focused on high-value oral alternatives to blockbuster biologic drugs delivered by injection. Its nGen platform systematically delivers macrocycle candidates, known as nCycles, optimized for oral bioavailability.

The company, which is now located in the new Symbion biotech hub in Fuglebakken, Copenhagen, was founded in 2021 by Novo Holdings' Seeds Investment team. It emerged from stealth in February 2024 with $28 million (EUR 26 million) in financing led by Novo Holdings and Forbion.
