Catalent has inked a deal to manufacture Jupiter Neurosciences’ softgel capsules for the company’s upcoming phase 2a clinical trial in Parkinson’s disease.
Per the agreement, Catalent will manufacture clinical batches of Jotrol, Jupiter’s proprietary resveratrol-based therapeutic, using an optimized softgel formulation. The production will include both active and placebo batches for the Parkinson’s study.
Extensive research into resveratrol has shown that for the compound to be effective, it must be delivered in a high concentration. Poor bioavailability as well as severe gastrointestinal side effects have been a well-documented issues, preventing the compound from receiving regulatory approvals.
Jotrol is designed to overcome the historical challenges of resveratrol by significantly enhancing bioavailability while minimizing gastrointestinal side effects. Jupiter’s delivery platform allows resveratrol to be consumed in an easily consumable, oral softgel in a patented micellar form, delivering therapeutically relevant, safe levels of resveratrol.
Back in December, the Florida-based company announced the closing of a $11 million IPO, which the Jupiter plans to use to advance a neuroinflammation pipeline that relies on its Jotrol platform.
