The Bristol Myers Squibb-Pfizer Alliance has announced that it will be offering a new direct-to-patient option for purchasing the blockbuster blood thinner, Eliquis.
This new option will be available starting September 8, when eligible patients will be able to purchase the drug directly through a patient resource called Eliquis 360 Support. This will be available to uninsured, underinsured, and self-pay patients, who will pay a discounted rate of no more than 40% of the current list price and will receive direct shipping.
The Bristol Myers Squibb-Pfizer Alliance was formed in 2007 to increase education and awareness of atrial fibrillation, deep vein thrombosis, and pulmonary embolism. The partners jointly commercialized Eliquis oral tablets, first approved in December 2012 to reduce the risk of stroke and systemic embolism in patients with nonvalvular atrial fibrillation. The drug, which quickly became a top-seller, will face generic entry in the U.S. in 2028.
