The Delhi High Court has cleared Natco Pharma to launch its generic version of Roche’s Evrysdi, known as risdiplam for spinal muscular atrophy (SMA), bringing an end to a prolonged legal battle with the Swiss multinational drugmaker.
India-based Natco will now sell its generic version of risdiplam, under the brand name Natsmart, at nearly a 97% reduction from Roche’s imported Evrysdi.
Risdiplam is used to treat SMA, a rare genetic disorder that causes progressive muscle weakness and loss of motor function. First approved in 2020 for treatment of SMA in adults and children 2 months of age and older, Roche’s Evrysdi was administered daily at home in liquid form by mouth or by feeding tube. In February 2025, Evrysdi was approved in tablet form.
Roche had sued Natco in early 2024 after learning of the Indian company’s plan to launch a lower-cost generic version.
