Lilly to Build $3B OSD Plant in the Netherlands

Eli Lilly and Company has announced that it will be building a $3 billion manufacturing plant in the Netherlands to produce more oral medications in Europe to sell globally.

To be located in Leiden Bio Science Park in Katwijk, the OSD plant will feature spray-dried dispersion for better absorption of oral medications, dock-to-dock automation and material flow, and process analytical technology. It will manufacture oral solid medicines for cardiometabolic health, neuroscience, oncology, and immunology as well as the company’s first oral GLP-1 receptor agonist, orforglipron.

This facility in the Netherlands is one of three within the EU that Lilly has announced since 2020. The project is expected to create 500 high-wage jobs in the South Holland province as well as 1,500 jobs for the construction of the plant, which is planned for next year.
