BioMarin has agreed to a deal to acquire Amicus Therapeutics for $14.50 per share, for a total deal value of approximately $4.8 billion.
The deal will expand BioMarin’s rare disease capabilities by giving the company Amicus’s lead oral drug, Galafold (migalastat), which treats Fabry disease. BioMarin will also gain Pombiliti (cipaglucosidase alfa-atga) + Opfolda (miglustat), which is a combined treatment for Pompe disease. These drugs are marketed, high-growth products that generated $599 million over the previous four quarters. In addition to increasing global access to Galafold + Opfolda, BioMarin will maintain U.S. exclusivity for Galafold through January 2037 due to litigation that was resolved on the same day that the acquisition was announced.
The deal will likely close during the second quarter of 2026, provided it receives regulatory clearances and stockholders of Amicus approve the transaction. It is expected that BioMarin will see an immediate growth in revenue once the acquisition is complete.
