Trump Signs Order to Fast Track Psychedelic Drugs for Mental Health Treatment

Through an executive order, President Trump has taken the first step toward making some psychedelic more available for treating conditions like depression and anxiety.

Three psychedelic drugs will receive national priority vouchers from the FDA next week, which will enable the agency to fast track their approval for treating serious mental illness. The decision is based on research including a 2025 study that showed that a single dose of MM120 (lysergide D-tartrate) — an oral pharmaceutical formulation of LSD — led to a dose-dependent reduction in anxiety in patients with moderate to severe general anxiety disorder (GAD).

Trump has said the executive order will also expedite the reclassification of the psychedelic drugs. Psilocybin and ibogaine are currently Schedule I drugs, which means they have “no currently accepted medical use and a high potential for abuse.”
