Novartis Finalizes U.S. Expansion Plan With Seventh New Facility

Novartis has announced that it will be building a new facility in Morrisville, North Carolina — the seventh in the company’s $23 billion U.S. manufacturing and R&D expansion plan unveiled last year.

The 56,200 square-foot facility will focus on manufacturing active pharmaceutical ingredients (APIs) for solid dosage tablets and capsules, as well as RNA therapeutics. Novartis’s goal is to increase end-to-end production from APIs through finished medicines. The company has pledged to manufacture all its key medicines for U.S. patients within the country by establishing more advanced technology platforms.

Other steps the company has taken to move forward with its U.S. expansion plan include opening a new biomedical research center in California, opening new manufacturing facilities for radioligand therapies (RLT) in Texas, Florida, and California, adding tablet and capsule production to its flagship manufacturing hub in North Carolina, and expanding its existing RLT facilities.
