Innoviva has launched a new wholly owned subsidiary, Nortiva Bio, as a clinical-stage biopharmaceutical company to develop long-acting oral therapies.
Central to Nortiva is its proprietary drug delivery platform LYNX. The platform replaces daily doses of oral drugs with a once-monthly capsule that unfolds in the stomach, releasing a stable dose during the drug delivery window. The idea is to improve efficacy, safety, and quality of life through promoting adherence, reducing side effects, and preventing low levels of a drug between doses.
The Massachusetts-based company’s pipeline includes a monthly oral contraceptive based on preclinical research that demonstrates proof of concept. Nortiva is also partnering with biotech and pharmaceutical companies to develop long-acting versions of other therapies, including approved and development-stage small molecules.
