Eli Lilly has announced that its oral GLP-1 Foundayo (orforglipron) is now available in the UK, the first country in Europe to offer the medication.
Foundayo received authorization from the UK’s medicines regulator on August 10 and is now available through prescription for patients receiving private healthcare. The drug will need to successfully complete an assessment from the National Institute for Health and Care Excellence before patients are able to receive prescriptions through the publicly-funded National Health Service.
Entry of Foundayo into the UK market gives patients more options for GLP-1 treatments. Oral Wegovy (semaglutide) from Novo Nordisk is already available, as is Lilly’s Mounjaro (tirzepatide). However, Lilly has said that Foundayo tablets will cost significantly less than its injectable treatment.
