CDMO Hovione has completed the expansion of its tablet development and manufacturing center at its main global campus in Loures, Portugal.
The expansion, which has cost the company a total of €40 million ($46 million), increases the manufacturing area by 25%, creating 50 skilled jobs. It includes an increase in batch tableting capacity through line mirroring across dispensing, blending, dry granulation, and tableting and film coating.
Key to the expansion is the addition of commercial-scale batch tablet capacity. Bringing spray drying and tableting into finished oral dosage forms to the same site improves the company’s integrated manufacture of amorphous solid dispersions (ASD), which reduces development time and simplifies supply chains.
