Scouting Report

 Scouting Report

When my daughter signed up for Scouts (formerly Boy Scouts of America), I was reminded of the motto I memorized when I was a member: Be Prepared.

That phrase is especially relevant to companies considering US Food & Drug Agency (FDA) regulations and how to comply with them. That’s not an easy task; the agency practically has its own language of form titles, abbreviations, and acronyms. And the regulations those words embody are often long and complex.

That’s why Tablets & Capsules put together this issue, primarily focused on understanding and following FDA rules, and being prepared for a visit by FDA inspectors. We’ve included a step-by-step article about how to get ready for such an event. We’ve conducted a Q&A with FDA officials about concerns and misconceptions companies might have about its role and intent. And we’ve put together a list of resources to help companies and their employees plan for such a visit.

Even if you’re a veteran of FDA inspections and have all your paperwork in order, it might be worthwhile studying FDA policies that apply to your facility, educating all employees about how regulations should be followed, and even conducting a mock inspection—because when it comes to following FDA regulations, one can never be prepared enough.
