Qualicaps to Close North Carolina Plant

Qualicaps, a manufacturer of hard capsules for oral solid dosage, will close its plant in Whitsett, North Carolina by the end of 2026.

The closure will eliminate 91 jobs, according to a WARN notice filed with the state. All affected employees were notified on December 2, 2025. Some workers are being offered transfers to positions within Roquette, the company’s parent organization. Roquette, a pharmaceutical excipients producer, announced an agreement to acquire Qualicaps in July 2023.

Per the notice, the hard gelatin capsule facility has “faced ongoing structural and business challenges, including significant low years ago — including ongoing pressures and increasing costs — making long-term operations unsustainable.”

Qualicaps says it will transition product supply to its other capsule manufacturing sites worldwide.
